MADKOUR Highlights Energy Storage and Green Finance at APUA 2025

During a panel discussion at the 21st APUA Congress, titled “Towards a Quantum Leap in Energy Efficiency”, Eng. Karim Ehab Salah, Managing Director of Renewable Energy and Entrepreneurship, emphasized the importance of focusing on energy storage solutions, such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), considering them a key element to enhancing the efficiency of wind and solar energy projects, particularly in Egypt and across Africa.
He also highlighted the significance of green finance, noting that in 2024, global financing opportunities are estimated at around $1.6 trillion, with only 3% allocated to African countries a situation that requires greater focus and collaboration to maximize these opportunities.
Ehab further pointed out that banking transactions will witness fundamental changes starting in 2026, with the introduction of a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) tax on exports to the European Union. This makes reducing carbon emissions not just an environmental obligation, but also an opportunity to increase profits and achieve financial savings.
خلال جلسة نقاشية بعنوان "نحو قفزة نوعية في كفاءة الطاقة" أكد المهندس كريم ايهاب، مدير عام الطاقة المتجددة و ريادة الأعمال، على أهمية التركيز على حلول تخزين الطاقة، مثل أنظمة تخزين طاقة البطاريات (BESS)، معتبراً إياها عنصراً أساسياً لتعزيز كفاءة مشاريع طاقة الرياح والطاقة الشمسية، خاصة في مصر وأفريقيا.
كما تطرق إلى أهمية التمويل الأخضر، موضحاً أنه فى 2024، هناك فرصاً تمويلية عالمية تقدر بنحو 1.6 تريليون دولار، وأن 3% منها خُصِص للدول الأفريقية، وهو ما يتطلب تركيزاً أكبر و تعاوناً للاستفادة من هذه الفرص.
وأشار إلى أن التعاملات المصرفية ستشهد تغيرات جوهرية اعتباراً من عام 2026، حيث سيتم فرض ضريبة على انبعاثات الكربون للتصدير للإتحاد الأوروبي CBAM، مما يجعل تقليل هذه الانبعاثات ليس مجرد التزام بيئي، بل فرصة لزيادة الأرباح وتحقيق وفورات مالية.
